2013 KitchNasty Awards

As the year ends… we look back on a year full of happiness, sorrow and everything in between… here are the KitchNasty Awards for 2013. Random Awards are listed first followed by the Heart Felt Awards. Enjoy. And agree or disagree with me…

RANDOM AWARDS

SONG OF THE YEAR
Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker… yes, Hootie! Rock me mama!

BEST CHINESE FOOD
Hong Kong Inn. Your crab rangoon is like sweet nectur for the soul. And your Sweet ‘N Sour Chicken is just done right. Way to go!

DAY OF THE WEEK
Saturday, you are so nice. From family time, to long runs at Busiek, college football in the fall, you are a day we all look forward too!

GROSS AWARD
– Mice. You were in my grill and my shed. You are NOT WELCOMED in either place. Some of you are no longer with us and I do not apologize.
– Luke and Leia. Our outdoor cats decided to use our shed as the place to drop the ‘ole #2. Wrong place. Grow up.

NASTIEST AWARD
Boston Red Sox postseason beards… down right NASTY. It made me want to use their beards to wipe our kitchen floor. I am not jealous here, I can only grow a junior high beard, but c’mon, those things were just sick. I just wanted to attack them with a beard trimmer. And stop pulling each others beards, it just looks awkward. I wanted them to lose the World Series more because of the beards than because I wanted my Cardinals to win.

WORD OF THE YEAR
Poop Nugget. The kids heard this word in car line at Disney Elementary this Spring and it truly captured their hearts. Trey has picked up on it and even does a “poop nugget” dance.

MAN CRUSH
Scott Bailes… from baseball to family to everything about this guy… I really like spending time with him, especially if it’s at Hammon’s Field!

WOMAN CRUSH
Katie Kitchin… down right hotty… so hot, want to touch the hiney!

“YOU WIN” AWARD
Miley Cyrus… from Twerking to buzzing your hair, to seeing your tongue WAY too much, smoking a joint, we get it… you are all grown up now and needed the attention in 2013. Everyone and their mothers talked about you on TV and social media… you simply WIN. Curious what 2014 will mean for you.

“MOST ANNOYING” AWARD
People who post on social media WAY too much… we get it, you are in the car headed somewhere… thanks for the 10 posts so that we can feel like we are in the car with you. Just enjoy the ride and keep it to yourself, one post is enough, we really don’t need to know what state you are in now or the gas station that you are at, or if they sell Tornadoes.

ICE CREAM HOT SPOT
Ben’s on the Square… Downtown Ozark yo! Big scoops, good price, awesome ambiance, can’t go wrong.

BEST ROOT BEER
Fitz’s… so tasty and creamy. Can’t go wrong.

BEST GAMES
– Alabama vs Auburn… who could of scripted an ending like that? Sports write new stories that we couldn’t imagine.
– Michigan State vs Ohio State… Sparty returns to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 25 years, by beating the undefeated Buckeye’s in the BIG TEN Championship game.

BEST PIZZA
Still the best… Faraci Pizza in St. Louis!

HEART FELT AWARDS

BEST BOOK
“FIGHT” by Craig Groschel. Talks about being a WARRIOR for Christ as it looks through the life of Samson. Amazing book that feels like an older brother sharing wisdom about being a man. Must read if you are a man, it will hit you in the heart!!!

INTEGRITY AWARD
Michigan State Head Coach Mark Dantonio. You get the Spartans to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 25 years and one of your Captain’s, third generation Spartan, “the computer” to the number 1 defense in the country, breaks a team rule and you hold up the consequences of his actions. I feel like so many schools would figure out some way to keep their star player on the field and suspend them for something in the future, but they made the tough move, which is the right move. Win or lose, Coach Dantonio has won the game of life!

MEMORABLE MOMENT
–  Officiating Coach Howard “Dinger” Bell’s funeral… true honor to be a part of his ceremony, he truly impacted kids on and off the field.
– Celebrating my Grandma Goebel’s 90th Birthday… she is a sweetheart who hasn’t let her stroke over a decade ago slow her down.
– Kitchin kids visiting Grandpa Kevin’s Memorial Tree at Queeny Park… nothing like talking about my Dad with my kids, precious.
– Helping Coach Connor and Chase in baseball and Ellie in soccer and basketball… priceless.
– Becoming an Uncle again to Sophie and to the new baby coming in 2014 from one of my other sisters
– Whiffleball in the front yard with the kids

TOUGHEST MOMENT
Telling the kids that the Cardinal’s had lost the World Series. They were into every game and couldn’t stand going to bed and miss the rest of the game. I had to tell them all that we lost the series when their faces were excited the next morning to hear if we had won.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT
Ran the Dogwood Canyon 25K Trail Run… literally the most challenging race I have ever ran. The Bass Pro Half Marathon two weeks later in downtown Springfield seemed crazy easy after this beast. If you want to feel “owned” by creation, sign up for the Dogwood next year!
